Visiting the Colosseum in Rome | How to Skip the Lines & Get VIP Views
Last Updated on July 18, 2020 by Dana Berez
It’s not surprising that the Colosseums hosts 4 million tourists a year being one of the 7 Wonders of the World. That means you can expect the lines to be long any day of the week. Just had a hot sun to the mix and you are asking for a recipe for disaster. When visiting the Colosseum, the best way is taking a Top Levels Access Colosseum tour hosted by the Roman Guy, a tour agency primarily based in Rome. With the Roman Guy you’ll be able to skip the lines and gain special access inside the Colosseum!
Visiting the Colosseum
Why Book a Tour with the Roman Guy
The lines to get into the Colosseum are no joke! Even early in the morning the line starts wrapping around the Colosseum. It wouldn’t be surprising that the wait would be around 2 hours. Booking with the Roman Guy, you’ll have the opportunity to skip the line and walk right in the guided tours entrance with your group. It was such a seamless experience that would have taken hours without a tour. It made the whole experience stress-free which is a huge plus. You just show up and your guide will take care of you!
The Roman Guy tours max out with 15 people, so your group will never be too big or crowded. You’ll also receive headpieces that help aide your hearing when learning about the Colosseum.
My favorite part about booking with the Roman Guy is the special access you’ll gain inside the Colosseum. If you just book a single ticket you’ll have access to the first 2 floors. With this tour you’ll have access to all the floors reaching the highest level for amazing views and an awesome photo opportunity!
About the Tour
Tours begin at 9:30 AM and you’ll meet your guide outside holding a Roman Guy sign. Check in was very simple, and as soon as everyone was checked in we entered into the Colosseum. We learned about the events that took place inside this ancient structure and saw renderings of what the Colosseum and surrounding area looked like. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had! The reserved access to the highest levels are the highlight of this tour. While the first two floors were crowded, we literally had the top levels all to ourselves!
Bonus- Access to Roman Forum
Not only do you see the Colosseum, you also gain entry to the Roman Forum with no line! Once inside you’ll be shown around by your guide. As the tour concludes, you can explore the Forum on your own if you choose! This tour lasts about 3 hours, and it was amazing checking off the Colosseum, a major sight we had to see, before noon with no hassle!
Thoughts
I loved the information that we learned about this ancient structure. It made standing in the space more real and interesting. The small group size added a more intimate feel. If you had a question you were certainly taken care of. Skipping the lines in both the Colosseum and Roman Forum was such a huge time saver! If this is your first time visiting the Colosseum I would highly recommend this tour! Your experience visiting the Colosseum will be a head-ache free and time efficient. This is the best way to see one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

That’s a great tip! I love any tour that provides secret access to better photography spots. 🙂 You can definitely see how crowded it is when you inspect the photos closely…there are tons of people there! Looks like a fantastic trip, though, and your photos are beautiful.
