Miss Congeniality Costume Essentials

Green Statue of Liberty Costume Dress

The dress is the most important part of this Halloween costume. After hours of searching Amazon, I finally found the perfect match. This mint green one-shoulder dress looks almost identical to the iconic pageant gown from Miss Congeniality, complete with a dramatic high slit.

Trust me, I did all the hard work for you, and this is by far the best one to get. Surprisingly, there aren’t too many mint green evening gowns on Amazon, but if you don’t like this style, I’ve linked similar options below.

Dress Fit & Sizing: I ordered the one-shoulder dress in a size XL. It has a very low open back, so you won’t be able to wear a traditional bra with it. As someone with a larger bust, I was a little nervous, but it ended up working out perfectly with just silicone nipple covers.

Crown

The Statue of Liberty crown is what really brings this costume to life. I found this mint green rhinestone crown on Amazon, and I loved that it looked more like a pageant crown than a typical Halloween costume accessory.

While there are plenty of traditional Statue of Liberty crowns available, this one perfectly captures the glamorous look from the iconic Miss Congeniality pageant scene.

Statue of Liberty Torch

Don’t forget the torch! I found this foam Statue of Liberty torch on Amazon, just like the one Gracie carries during the pageant scene. It’s super lightweight and easy to hold all night, so it completes the costume without being bulky or uncomfortable.

Miss New Jersey Accessories

I wanted to recreate the pageant scene as closely as possible. In the movie, each contestant holds a medium-sized cutout of the state they’re representing, so you could easily DIY one using leftover cardboard and spray paint.

I decided to keep it simple and ordered a custom “Miss New Jersey” sash from Amazon instead, which instantly made the costume recognizable. Just keep in mind this is the one item you’ll want to order ahead of time since it has to be personalized.

Glitter Hairspray

Amazon Glitter Hairspray

One of my favorite details from the movie is how all of the pageant contestants have a subtle sparkle to their hair. This glitter spray from Amazon was the perfect finishing touch. It’s not a sticky hairspray, so you can mist it over your hair, body, or even your dress for a soft shimmer that catches the light and makes the costume feel even more authentic.

Bonus idea: If you really want to commit to the look, recreate Gracie Lou Freebush after she falls on stage by pinning a small piece of hair into your crown. It’s a subtle detail that any Miss Congeniality fan will instantly recognize!

How to Style Your Miss Congeniality Costume

Amazon Miss Congeniality costume

To style this Miss Congeniality costume, go for glamorous pageant-inspired hair and makeup. Gracie Lou Freebush actually wears her hair straight during the pageant scene, but I opted for soft curls to really show off the glitter spray.

I finished the look with a pair of chunky rhinestone hoop earrings and comfortable gold kitten heels that I could easily wear all night.

One of my favorite things about this costume is that it’s actually cute and comfortable to wear. Instead of feeling like you’re wearing a bulky costume, it feels like you’re dressed up for a glamorous event while still recreating one of the most iconic movie scenes of all time.

Remember, you’re one in a million āļø I hope this Miss Congeniality costume inspires your Halloween look!
