Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort is located on the South-Western part of the island in a truly unforgettable and relaxed setting.

The closest town is Soufriere, which is a historic town that hosts the Island’s main natural attractions: the drive-in volcano, botanical gardens, and waterfalls all in close proximity.

How far is Sugar Beach from the Airport?

Sugar Beach is a 45-minute drive from Hewanorra International Airport, airport code (UVF), and one hour and 20 minutes from George F.L Charles Airport (SLU).

The Beach & Pool

Sugar Beach st Lucia

Take in the Caribbean sun at the spacious beach or resort pool. I personally loved spending the whole day at the beach under the organic beach huts taking in the incredible views and sitting in the water. Yes, you read that correctly. You can sit in the water on these floating rafts while soaking up the sun while cooling down in the water.

While you are at the beach or pool, you can order food & drinks directly to your chairs. The margarita pizza and chicken tacos were my go-to order every day. And of course, the classic rum punch cocktail is a must-order!

Besides the main beach, be sure to head over to the second smaller beach in front of the Beachfront Collection Villas that has an even more exclusive feel. There you will find more beachfront seating, a long pier with sunbeds and a bar, and a net bed over the water. This is a perfect place to take in the sunset.

Sugar Beach St Lucia Dining

Whether you’d like casual dining in the sand or a world-class dining experience, you can find a variety of cuisines and restaurants on the property.

In-Room Dining: First and foremost you can enjoy St. Lucia dining directly at your villa for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I personally loved ordering breakfast right to the room to overlook the incredible view in the comfort of our luxury bathrobes. My personal favorite was the salmon, spinach, and goat cheese omelet with a carafe of coffee. Breakfast can’t get better than this.

The Terrace Restaurant: Serving breakfast only, the Terrace restaurant is set on the ground floor of the Great house offering al fresco dining overlooking the lily pond, and resort grounds. You can opt for a buffet or order a la carte.

Bayside Restaurant: Located right on the beach, you can take in the views for lunch and dinner.

Great Room Restaurant: Specialties include seared scallops, tender Kobe beef, and mahi-mahi in a romantic candlelit setting.

Cane Bar: (Temporarily Closed) The specialty rum bar home to a rummelier, you can learn how to select the perfect rum and dish pairing.

Activities at Sugar Beach St Lucia

You will not get bored at Sugar Beach with all of the variety of activities you can choose to do.

My two personal favorites were kayaking on the sea looking at both Pitons and the resort and snorkeling. There is a roped-off area in the sea that is a natural marine reserve. As soon as you look underwater, you will see plenty of fish and coral. It’s an incredible sight to see, and it’s a must-do while at Sugar Beach

In addition to my two favorites of kayaking & snorkeling, here are other activities you can do at Sugar Beach: tennis, pool table, beach volleyball, jogging & walking, table tennis, scheduled fitness classes, SUP boards, windsurfing, sailing, Hobie cats, & pedalos.

Note: All gear including life vests, snorkel masks, and snorkel tubes are sanitized after every single use.

The Spa & Fitness Center

Indulge in the Rainforest Spa that boats a strong Caribbean aesthetic and experience with modern techniques. The Rainforest spa has 10 treehouse treatment rooms, including a new couples treehouse built on silts with windows that overlook the serene forest.

You’ll also find manicure and pedicure facilities, a relaxation pavilion, and an earthen Amerindian steam dome, which reconnects the spa to the island’s earliest settlers.

The Fitness Center has personal training sessions tailored to your needs including weight training, interval training, or targeted weight loss regimens.

Family Services at Sugar Beach

Sugar Beach is a family-friendly resort and offers complimentary children’s activities watched by childcare professionals at the Sugar Club for ages 4-12, Spice Club for teens and tweens, and babysitting services at an additional charge.

What to Pack for St Lucia

For sunny destinations, I like to pack my usual favorite swimsuits, my go-to raffia sunhat, and of course a large beach tote. If you are concerned about bugs, there is a medium-sized bug spray can in your room.

If you plan on going snorkeling, I would recommend bringing some water shoes. I found this pair on Amazon for a great price, and they don’t take too much room in my suitcase.

  1. Hello- my fiancĆ© and I are thinking about going to Sugar Beach for our honeymoon next year. We are looking at the Grand Luxury Villa as well. Are you able to walk to the beach from the villas? And if so, how long of a walk would you say? Ive read you need to shuttle around the hotel, was curious if that’s the case. thanks!

    1. Hi Alyssa! Depending on how high you are up on the mountain it would be quite a walk, but there is a car that picks you up and it’s quite efficient. They give you small cellphones that you can call them wherever & whenever for a ride!

  2. Hi there. Thanks for your detailed review. We are headed there in a few weeks and are wondering about tipping. Our experience has only been at Sandals where it is not allowed for most staff so we are unsure how the logistics work. Do you bring cash (1s,5s and 10s) or charge it back to the room? Also, regarding the butler, do you tip at each interaction or a large sum at the end (which is what the Sandals butler situation usually calls for). Also, how about the shuttle drivers? I assume yes? How about spa staff? I want to be sure that all of the employees are compensated for their efforts and we don’t want to offend anyone. Thanks!
